Here's the recipe for Dumur Posto (Fig with Poppy Seeds):
Ingredients:
Fresh figs (dumur) – 200 grams (chopped into small pieces)
Poppy seeds (posto) – 4 tablespoons
Green chilies – 2-3 (as per taste)
Mustard oil – 2 tablespoons
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
Salt – to taste
Sugar – 1 teaspoon (optional)
Water – as needed
Instructions:
1. Soak the poppy seeds: Soak the poppy seeds in warm water for about 30 minutes. Drain and grind them into a smooth paste with green chilies and a little water.
2. Prepare the figs: Wash and chop the figs into small pieces.
3. Cooking: Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts to smoke lightly, then reduce the flame. Add the chopped figs and sauté them for 2-3 minutes.
4. Add turmeric and salt: Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt over the figs and mix well. Cook for a few more minutes until the figs start to soften.
5. Add poppy seed paste: Add the ground poppy seed paste to the figs and mix well. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously to avoid sticking to the pan.
6. Add water: If needed, add a small amount of water to adjust the consistency of the dish.
7. Simmer: Cover and simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the figs are fully cooked and well coated with the poppy seed paste.
8. Finish with sugar: Add a teaspoon of sugar to balance the flavors if desired, and stir well.
9. Serve: Serve hot with steamed rice.
Enjoy your flavorful Dumur Posto!
